SEN Class Teacher for our Post 16 Provision at The Avelon

Required for Autumn Term 2018 or sooner if possible

Grade: Main Pay Scale 1-6 or Expert Teacher (7-9) dependent on aptitude and expertise + SEN

Reports to: Head Teacher

Corbets Tey School caters for 120 students aged from 4 - 16 and 35 students at our 16-19 provision at The Avelon. We are a Specialist College of Communication and Interaction.

We are seeking to appoint a dynamic and highly motivated classroom practitioner to engage and inspire a class of Post 16 SEN learners through high expectations and eclectic and accessible teaching methods. The successful applicant will work in specialist classes that utilise a variety of communication approaches, supporting students with complex communication and behaviour needs. We are committed to offering an inspiring and engaging curriculum where students develop functional skills for life and maximise their levels of independence. We aspire to give our students the tools for maximum success in adulthood.

The post holder will be required to carry out the professional duties of a teacher as set out in the current edition of the School Teacher’s Pay and Conditions Document. The successful applicant will be confident in teaching young adults with learning difficulties.

Ideally you will have experience in developing the communication skills of young people with complex needs including Autism, utilising assessment and target setting within approaches such as Verbal Behaviour (VB), Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS), Assessment of Functional Living Skills (AFLS) and other communication and life-skill focused programmes. You should be willing to apply an analytical approach to monitoring progress of students through innovative teaching and learning. The successful applicant will be excited and enthusiastic about developing individualised learning programmes to maximise motivation and engagement and to achieve positive outcomes for every single learner. We are willing to provide training in any of the appropriate approaches to the right candidate.

Shortlisted candidates should expect to observe and lead a class as part of the interview process which will also include a planning task and interview.
